What if my child doesn’t want to go into the visitation room?

SVP staff and volunteers will do everything we can to ensure that your child is comfortable at the visitation centers.  It is very important that you prepare your child for the visit – it will make your child feel more comfortable and enjoy the time with the other parent. 

The following is a list of suggestions for helping yoru child prepare for the visit:  

• tell your child you will return when the visit is over
• describe the environment
• tell your child that he or she will be with mommy or daddy during the entire visit
• tell your child that he/she will not be forced to say or do anything they don’t want to do during the visit
• try to put your fears, concerns and anger aside and present this experience as a positive one for your family
